Obituary of Rona Schick
RONA SCHICK
Rona Schick (Fleisher) passed away on January 25 at the age of 86. She was living in Suffern, NY, but previously lived in Philipsburg, New Jersey where she was an active member of the Jewish Center of NW New Jersey.
Rona was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 23, 1929, the daughter of Jacob Fleisher and Ana Rose Hiller Fleisher. She was predeceased by her brother, Mervin, and sister, Frances.
Although she worked at many jobs over the years, her true vocation was her art. She graduated from Washington Irving HS in New York City as an art major and became a fashion illustrator. She would later work in a picture framing company where she helped bring out the beauty of art work through custom framing and matting.
She moved to Washington, NJ in 1976 where she found her true home in the Jewish Center. She was loved by many at the Center, and cherished the community she had there. At 69 she had a Bat Mitzvah with a group of women who in their youth had been excluded from this ritual. In this, and other areas, she always spoke up for women’s rights and dignity.
After retiring, Rona was able to pursue her love of art. She participated in and earned several awards for her exhibits at art shows. She also volunteered her time to teach art and to read to elementary school children. She continued to do intricate pen and ink and color abstract designs until the end of her life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley. They were married for 63 years.
She is survived by her three daughters, Carla and spouse Diana of Oakland CA, Amy and husband Robbie of Encintias, CA and Lorraine and husband Marc of Airmont, NY and 3 Grandchildren, Emily, Russell and Melissa,
