Obituary of Nicholas Zarra
Nicholas E. Zarra, Sr., age 84, of Bloomfield died peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2010 at home in Bloomfield.
Nicholas was born August 23, 1926 in Bloomfield, NJ a son of the late Ernest and the late Margaret (Moriarity) Zarra.
Nicholas moved from Bloomfield to Newark, Maplewood and Irvington before returning back to Bloomfield. He was an avid NY Giants football fan and often spoke of the days when he played football for Bloomfield High School. He was an assistant coach for the Vailsburg QPs, a team that his children were members of. In his earlier years, he was owner and operator of his own produce company in Seaside Heights. He went on to be a steelworker and then was employed at Linden Chlorine Products, Linden, NJ for 10 years. He also ran his own pipe fabrication business before retiring. Nicholas was also a proud member of the Springfield ELKS Club.
He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (Policastro) Zarra in 2008.
He is survived by four sons: Nicholas, Jr. and his wife Linda, Joseph and his wife June, Thomas and his wife Luanne, John and his wife Julia and many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was one of nine children.
A brief prayer service was held on September 8, 2010 at DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 W. Washington Ave. Washington NJ 07882. A private burial was held n Summerfield Cemetery, White Township. Online condolences can be made at www.devoefuneral.com
