Obituary of Raymond Person
Raymond Person, age 92, of Washington, NJ, after being stricken at his home, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ.
Raymond was born on September 21, 1918, in West Portal, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Russel and Harriet (nee Hauck) Person.
Mr. Person was a farmer for most of his life in Uniontown (nearby the former Morries Acres), Warren County, but also had worked for Ingersoll Rand in Phillipsburg later in life until his retirement. He was an avid Mets fan and started each new season with a hearty Go Mets! he also followed collegiate Penn State football.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 451, Stewartsville, New Jersey; a member of the Washington VFW Post 6701; a member of the Stewartsville Presbyterian Church, Stewartsville, NJ. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a T5; in World War II, he was primarily stationed in India.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine E. Person; his two daughters: Linda Larson and husband, Steve, CA; Susan Biller and husband, Jim, PA; stepson, Harold Anderson and wife, Marilyn, CT; and stepdaughter, Daryl Hoffmann, NJ; grandchildren/stepgrandchildren: Noah Larson, Aaron Biller, Michael Anderson, Eric Anderson, Krista Okerholm, and stepgreatgrandchild, Lilli Bard Anderson. Raymond also has three brothers, Preston Person and wife, Shirley, NC; Jack Person, PA; and, Stanley Person and wife, Joanne, PA. He is predeceased by his parents; first wife, Florence (Krauss) Person, in 1984; and sister, Arline Malloy, in 1957.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. The DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882, has been entrusted with his arrangements. Relatives and close friends will hold a time of remembrance to honor Raymond at the West Portal United Methodist Church, 319 Tunnel Road, West Portal, Asbury, New Jersey 08802, on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. with a casual lunch to follow. One of Raymond's earliest memories was of him as a little boy sitting on the edge of the piano bench in the church while his mother played the piano during the church service.
