Obituary of Melva Burek
Melva Burek, 83 years old, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospice, Bethlehem, PA. Melva was born on November 21, 1924 in Washington, NJ, a daughter of the late Charles and the late Ruth (Kries) Higgins. She lived in Washington moving to Phillipsburg 35 years ago. Melva had the opportunity to perform on the radio as a singer with the ""B Sisters."" She later went on to operate her own kennel where she raised poodles. Melva was a former member of the Oxford Ladies Auxiliary supporting the Oxford Fire Department. She was a past member of the Alpha Mennonite Church in Alpha, NJ.
Survivors:
Melva is survived by her daughter and her husband, Annabelle and Charles Gero of Phillipsburg, NJ; two brothers, Carl Higgins of Oxford, NJ and Roy Bush of Virginia; a grandson, Charles; two granddaughters, Michelle and Shannon and six great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Ryan, Brandon, Joshua, Rebekah, and Meriah.
Services: Friends may call Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ. A funeral service will immediately follow on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc. Interment will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm in Montana Cemetery, Harmony Township, NJ.
