Obituary of Charles Van Eiken
Mr. Charles VanEiken of rural Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, N.J. passed
away at his home near West Portal during the evening of February 6. Mr. VanEiken was
preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Dorothy GroffVanEiken, who ~ied in July
2005, and by his brother Edgar VanEiken, and sister Emma Ristmiller. Mr. VanEiken
was born in Phillipsburg, N.J. on January 2, 1921, the son of the late Earl and Ada Eckert 41
VanEiken and spent much of his childhood and young adult years in the Harmony area,
Warren County, N.J., living on the farm of his Eckert grandparents and working for local
farmers. Beginning about 1965, Mr. VanEiken was employed by Hunterdon County as a
heavy equipment operator and retired from that position in 1986. Mr. VanEiken was a
faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Hampton, N.J. He is survived by a
stepson Robert Faye of Dahlonega, GA, a step daughter Darlene Straka of Sugarloaf, PA,
grandchildren William and Bryon Breese ofMD and Brandon Faye ofGA, and two
great-grandchildren, Ava and David Breese of MD.
Services and internment was held at the convenience of the family with internment in
Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, N.J. The DeVoe Funeral Service of
Washington, N.J. was in charge of arrangements.
