Obituary of Janie DeVoe

Jane "Janie" Frances DeVoe, 66 , of Washington has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, December 15, 2013. Born December 19, 1946 in Phillipsburg she was the daughter of the late E. Thomas and Laverne (Mason) DeVoe. Previously Janie was a bookkeeper and secretary with DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc. She was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School and was a published author having written for Sheltie Pacesetter Magazine and Our Crested Magazine. She trained dogs since 1968 under Winifred Strickland, who was one of the top obedience instructors of her day, on the East Coast. She was active in animal rescue and trained and showed dogs to several titles. Several of her students earned titles with their dogs. She was a lifetime member of Washington United Methodist Church where years ago she participated in the Children's Choir and after graduation she became a teacher of the children's choir. She was also a member of the Northern NJ Collie Club and the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors. She is survived by two brothers, Thomas E. of Flanders, NJ and Mark of Washington; four nephews, Joshua, Mason, Zachary and Mark; five nieces, Heather, Mandee, Amber, Cheryl and Margaret (Maggie); four great-nephews; five great-nieces; as well as her three dear little dogs, Oliver, Keira and Honey, and her birds. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc., 136 W. Washington St., Washington, NJ. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to time of services in the funeral home. Interment will be in Washington Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Doyle-Devlin Funeral Home, Inc. in Phillipsburg. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Heart Association.
