Obituary of Mildred Elvin
Mildred "Millie" Elvin died at the age of 92 on July 17th at the Lopatcong Care Center in Phillipsburg, NJ. She was born August 22, 1922 in Paterson, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Edith VanWay McAteer. A 1941 graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, she moved to Washington, New Jersey in 1947. Millie worked five years at the Pohatcong Hosiery and eighteen years at the First Fidelity Bank of North Jersey/First Union Bank, retiring in 1988. She was a lunch room mother for four years at Memorial Elementary School. She loved to read. Also, she loved watching college football, professional football, and golf on television. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington for over sixty years. She was a past member of the "Forever Young Club" and the Warren Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered. She was a Cub Scout leader and volunteer for the Boy Scouts. Also, she volunteered at the First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons: Bruce Elvin and his companion Janet Massenaro of Washington, NJ, and Fred Elvin of Pickerington, OH. Four grandchildren: Kelly McCleaster and her husband Michael of Hoboken, NJ, Jason Elvin and his wife Melissa of Phoenixville, PA, Michael Elvin of Columbus, OH and Shawn Elvin of Logan, UT; sister Thelma Large of Westwood, NJ; niece Patricia Herbert and nephew Robert Large and his wife Jan; along with several great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by the following: her husband, Fred Elvin (in 1989) who served four and half years as an Army Staff Sergeant in World War II and then worked at Castle Creek Prints; sister Evelyn Klemp, her husband Merle and daughter Janet; brother-in-law Robert Large; great nephew David Buschow.
