We were deeply saddened to hear of Pat's death. He was a good friend and mentor. We have many fond memories of Pat from when we worked together in Dallas and New Jersey. Please accept our deepest condolences. Pat will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Pat, My Dear Brother
Pat is much more than a close friend, rather he is a dear brother to me. God led out a plan to let Pat and me worked together and lived together for years. We did research and development for Celanese in New Jersey and served as advisors to the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan.
There were days we worked hard in the lab, in the plants of ours and those we consulted with. And we also had good times in celebrations, show restaurants, beaches, mountains and so many other gatherings. Pat and I lived like brothers in an exclusive house, provided by the Taiwanese government and served by an exclusive helper.
Pat will be remembered by many in Taiwan: on one hand his humor, wittiness and love to people; on the other hand his capability and enthusiasm to help Taiwan plastics, television and computer industries to make a quantum jump by his teachings of the use of engineering plastics and mold designs. Pat's work made important contribution to Hon Hai Precision Industry, better known as Foxconn, run by Terry Guo who became a billionaire and having one million employees in many countries.
My youngest daughter was named Patricia after Pat. Patricia and I want to come to Pat's final service, but there are only two days between Jan. 25 and 27, we are not able to fly back to New Jersey from Taiwan in time. All travel agents were off during the Lunar New Year Holidays. I hope Pat will forgive us for not attending the service.
I went back to New Jersey and was with Pat a month ago just before Christmas 2011, we were able to chat and had fun having dinner and dessert together. I told Pat about my minister's sermon quoting John 5:8 when Jesus said to a sick man, "Stand up, take your mat and walk." Pat tried to stand up the next day, but failed to walk. Thank God, he did on January 24 and walked to join our Lord. When our Lord calls again, I will join my dear brother to continue our good time together.
Pat, we love you dearly!
Victor
Words from Victor Lin's four daughters:
(1)Victoria in California:
Dad,
I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. I know how much he meant to you and how he helped you all these years. How lucky you both were to have found one another.
Love,
Vicki
(2 ) Jennifer in California:
Hi Dad,
I just called your cell phone number and left a voicemail. I'm really sad and sorry to hear about Uncle Pat. I remember him vividly and I've always thought he was kind, fascinating and fun, especially when he blew rings with his pipe.
How are you feeling? Call me back when you get a chance.
Love,
Jenny
(2) Christina in Taiwan:
I finally met you in the winter of 2009, after I heard much of the stories of you from Dad. Just like what I thought you were a very nice person, like a father and a friend that I knew for a long time. I will always miss you, Uncle Pat.
(3) Patricia in Taiwan:
I really want to yell loudly, because it is no fair that I haven't seen Uncle Pat in person before. My name was named after him so he seemed like my second father, although he did not know me well. Despite Uncle Pat was called back by God, his humor, kindness and strong vitality will always live in our hearts.

I knew Pat from our Ticona days. When I first started there out of college, he taught me a key lesson that I continue to quote even to this day - 20 years later. I am sorry for your loss. I know I will never forget him and the lesson he taught me.

Will never forget my 40th birthday dinner - Michael Vath was to attend, but was unable. Maggie advised that a "surprise" guest would attend in his stead. Of course it was the great Pat Hughes! A great time was had by all, and his company was much appreciated. He will be missed.

Dear Jan and family: I would like to send you my deepest sympathies for your loss. Pat was one of the most kind, gentle, and thoughtful men I have ever met, and his smile and wonderful sense of humor are what I will always remember about him. His faith in God was an inspiration to me, and I am glad that he now rests in peace in the presence of his Savior. God bless you, Pat, it was an honor, joy, and privilege to call you my friend. Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was. The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no sorrow in your tone. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.
