Obituary of Richard Adams

Richard "Dick" A. Adams, 72, a lifetime resident of the Washington and Franklin Township areas, NJ, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, PA. He was born, November 28, 1936 in Phillipsburg, NJ, a son of the late Morris W. and the late Myrtle L. (Blanchard) Adams. Mr. Adams was the former chief of Broadway Fire Dept. and a member of the Washington Fire Dept.; a founding member of the Franklin Twp. Rescue Squad and an honorary member of the Washington Emergency Squad; former special police officer in Washington Borough where he also served as a dispatcher; former Dog Warden and one time employed by the Washington Borough DPW. He was at one time owner of the former Pips Tavern in Washington and before retiring he was owner and operator of Kountry Kitchen Cafe, a restaurant in Washington, NJ. Richard was of the Methodist faith. Survived by his wife of 48 years Rosemary (Mexson) Adams, two sons, Douglas and his companion Chuck Christopher of Palmer Township, PA, Gary and his companion Jeff Frey of Allentown, PA,; three brothers, Clifford C. Adams and his wife Elizabeth of Hawley, PA, Larry Adams and his wife Patricia of Broadway, NJ, and Ronald D. Adams and his wife Terry of Phillipsburg, NJ; a sister in law Louise (Mrs. Harvey) Adams; a nephew, Adam Adams, who Richard cared for like a son. He is survived by many more family and friends and five dachshunds that loved him dearly. He was also predeceased by his son Richard A. Jr., his daughter-in-law, Tina, a granddaughter, Jennifer Lee and two brothers, Morris "Sonny" W. Adams and Harvey S. Adams. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ. The viewing will continue on from 3:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the funeral home. Cremation private.
