Obituary of Donald Keenan
Donald "Don" Keenan 93 of Washington, NJ passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in St. Luke's Warren Hospital.
May 19, 1921 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Harold and Ellen Keenan.
Don was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. He served overseas for 3 years in the U.S. Army in the European theater of World War II. Upon his return home he operated his own business, Keenan Cleaners, before becoming employed by the New Jersey Department of Corrections, rising to the rank of Captain, working from the Central Office of the Department in Trenton. Upon his retirement Don spent many hours with his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jane Bowlby Keenan. In addition to his wife Jane, Don is survived by his son Dale Keenan and wife Kathy of Colonie, NY, his daughter Brenda Place and husband Richard of Oak Island, NC, and four grandchildren who fondly remember their "Pop," Jennifer Vrooman of Narberth, PA, Emily Lupe and husband Eric of Colonie, NY, Jesse Place of Farmingdale, NJ, and Autumn Bixler and husband Bryce of Fayetteville, NC, as well as three great grandchildren. Don was predeceased by his son Gary, two brothers Harold Jr. and Harry Keenan, and two sisters, Irene Keenan and Betty Fetzko.
