A little bit about Carl that some of you may not know. I tell you this only to make you aware of the importance of research for mental illnesses which holds no prejudice, rich or poor, young or old. It could happen to you. (Judy)
He was vigilant with his diet and exercise. In spite of it, he suffered with physical and mental illnesses beyond his control. Medications did a fair job for his bipolar disorder but stopping them caused him to go out of control and into a maniacal state for 2 years, causing his divorce. Eventually, after the divorce, he once again resumed his medications and moved back in with his ex-spouse, Judy. It was a year or so later he was officially diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. His LBD progressed and Judy cared for him at home, retiring in 2014 so she could care for him full time. ln June 2018 his LBD caused him to stop walking. It was time for a nursing home. Obviously the disease progress continued, as did the decline of his mental and physical state, until he could not speak, feed himself, even get a drink of water if he needed it. He no longer recognized his children or Judy, who came several times a week to feed him. The last 3 days of his life he stopped eating and never again opened his eyes. Mercifully, God took him home on December 20, 2019, on what would have been the 56th wedding anniversary of Judy and Carl.
