Life of Maria Ferrara
Our beloved mother, Maria (Carbone) Ferrara will reach her final journey of this earth and be laid to rest today at St. Joseph cemetery on July 15, 2021 to join our beloved father, Domenico and beloved Andrea (Bucky).
Born in Palma Campania, Italy on June 10, 1929, to the late Antonio and Rosa (Cosenza) Carbone.
As a child, much like her late husband, Domenico, was the oldest in her family. She lived on a family farm in Italy with crops and animals to care for. At an early age, she would have to give up school and tend to the daily chores with her family while learning the family business to help them succeed.
This also was a time of World War 2, which had taken its toll on Europe.
These times were tough on all family’s trying to survive from the effects of war.
She met and married her husband Domenico in Italy and had a son together. The new family decided to leave the war-torn country and look for opportunity in the United States. The family migrated to this country in the 1950’s for a better future. They lived for a short while with my father’s family, who had earlier migrated to this country. Later, they moved to northwest New Jersey to raise their family.
Maria struggled in the new country and had to learn the new language while caring for her new family of 3 sons. She would attend night school to learn English and successfully gained her citizenship in 1961, six years after arriving in this country. That was one of her proudest achievements to reach citizenship in the USA.
She was a hard worker and had a business savvy learned early on from the family business. She had the heart and determination of a lion and would work hard to advance the family and learn the ways of the new country.
She held several jobs to help ends meet, working at the old Hackettstown diner, Lackawanna Leather company and Mobil chemical. Later she would operate a Mister Softee Ice Cream truck to help further advance the family. Ultimately, she gained employment at M&M Mars with her husband, Domenico.
Maria retired from M&M Mars and later residing in Spring Hill, Florida with her late husband, Domenico. They enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida, later moving back to New Jersey to be close with family.
She was a devoted mother, sister, and wife and the driving force in raising her family of 3 sons. She provided a home full of love and many family holidays and festive occasions for all to enjoy.
Mom, thank you for providing the fullest of life anyone can imagine to all of us and:
Thank you for who we are
Thank you for all the things we are not
Forgive us for the words unsaid
For the times we forgot
Mom, We hope this makes you smile
We hope you're happy with our life
At peace with every choice, we made
How we have changed along the way
Cause I know you believed in all of our dreams
And we owe it all to you.
Mom, rest in peace, we love you. Give all who have preceded in death a hug from all of us, especially pop and our beloved Bucky. Continue to watch over us and lead us all, till we meet again.
