Obituary of Madeline Giampa Mooney
Madeline Giampa Mooney, 88, of Washington, NJ, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at her daughter's home. Madeline was born on June 18, 1933,to the late Nicholas Giampa and the late Catherine (nee Palfey) Giampa. Madeline spent her childhood growing up in Hanover Township and Ashley, PA.
She graduated from Hanover High School in 1951. Her yearbook describes her as a charming, chic, and captivating majorette.
Madeline married the love of her life, Thomas J. Mooney, on August 21, 1954. Together they raised their beloved daughter, Carol Mooney Kemp. Madeline and Tom relocated to Lambertville, NJ, and then onto Washington, NJ.
Madeline volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for the Brownies and Juniors in the Borough. She worked at Consumers’ Research Magazine in the 1970’s and early 1980’s. She went on to be the receptionist for Broscious, Glynn, and Fisher Law Firm. Madeline treasured her time there, especially her co-workers with whom she formed close friendships. Madeline was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for over 60 years.
Madeline was an animal lover and loved her own precious dogs, Penny and Benji, as well as Carol’s six dogs who were like her own. She was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Yankees, NY Giants, the Olympics, and the Sweet Sixteen in NCAA Basketball. Madeline was a dedicated and loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed.
Madeline will be forever missed by Carol Kemp, her beloved daughter, and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1997.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Thursday, February 10th, from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 pm on Thursday, February 10th, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 200 Carlton Avenue, Washington NJ. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
