Obituary of Alfred R. Bowen

Alfred Richard Bowen, 85, was the beloved husband of Margaret Stanley Bowen, who predeceased him in 2016.  He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Quelch and Barbara Finney, their husbands, and four grandchildren: Robert Quelch, Duncan Finney, Rhiannon Finney and Gwyneth Finney.

Alfred taught at Warren Hills Regional High School as a metal shop teacher and CIE coordinator for over 35 years before he retired with his wife. 

For all those who knew Alfred, he was a constant. If something needed to be done or fixed, he was the man to go to. He could build anything, a house, a car, just ask. He loved taking care of his cars, house and yard. But his greatest love was his wife, Peggy, for whom he took such great care the last years of her life.

Alfred had a great sense of humor. He was old fashioned in that he was one way when with his male friends but another when “ladies” were present. Surprisingly, he had an irreverent attitude toward authority. He believed all people should be treated with dignity and respect. And, that’s how he lived his life. 

He will be remembered as a good man, teacher, husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed. 

Friends and relatives may gather with the family on Saturday, July 1^st from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM with words of remembrance starting at 12:00 PM. All services will be held at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 142 West Washington Ave, Washington NJ 07882. Alfred will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Peggy, at the Montana Cemetery in Harmony Township.
