Obituary of Maria Virginia Malaret

Maria Virginia (Reyes) Malaret, age 90, of Washington, NJ, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born on September 15, 1933, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, Maria was the daughter of the late Genoveva Reyes.

Maria was born and raised in Puerto Rico.  She worked at American Can Company for 30 years, where she retired from. Maria married the love of her life, Cesar Malaret Sr. Together they raised four children: Carmen, Cecilia, Cesar and Nidia. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren who she took great joy in. They all call her "Abuelita" and they meant the world to her. 

Maria enjoyed gardening, cooking Spanish food, and sewing clothes for her family. She was a woman of faith who was a devout Catholic. Maria dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Her family was her most precious gift. She will be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. 

Maria will be forever missed by her son, Cesar Malaret; daughters, Carmen Fehr, Cecilia Cory and her husband John, Nidia Capasso and her husband James; sisters, Mimia and Viola; grandchildren, Cagney, Nicole, Jeremy, Joshua, Barbara, Jared, Kerrin, Bogin; eighteen loving great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. 

Maria is predeceased by her beloved husband, Cesar Malaret Sr., mother, Genoveva Reyes; brother, Raul and sister, Delia.

Friends and relatives may visit with Maria’s family on Monday, December 11^th from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, located at 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington NJ 07882. Catholic prayer service will begin at 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Maria will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at the St. Joseph's Cemetery following the service.
