Obituary of Henry Rios

Henry was born in Humacao Puerto Rico in 1928 to the parents of Jose Luis Rios and Zoila Diaz. Henry was one of 9 children, second youngest. He lived in Puerto Rico until around the age eleven when he moved to New York City; living in the Bronx with all his siblings, cousins and aunts and uncles. In the Bronx is where his name evolved to Henry Rios. His family called him "QuiQue " affectionately. It was in 1951 when Henry joined the United States Army to be shipped off immediately spending almost all of his service in Korea. Upon returning home, an avid lover of salsa dance music, he would go out every chance he got dragging his sisters and nieces. At one Halloween dance is where he met his life partner, Norgin. There's a story that Henry introduced himself as Harry, for unknown reasons but Norgin called him Harry for some time until she met his family. Shortly after Hank and Norgin married in August 1959 in New York, they packed up the Chevy, including his mother-in-law, to drive cross country to Los Angeles, California. Living in what Norgin calls the smallest bungalow ever they stayed for a short time only to come back to New York where Henry landed a job as a Supervisor at Commercial Plastics, while Norgin worked on Wall Street until they had their first born, Henry David Rios Jr. It was after their daughter was born, Zoila Gina they moved to the suburbs of New Jersey. Here is where Henry was very active in the American Legion. A place that he spent a lot of time with other Korean war soldiers, organizing events for children. He took on being the leader for the little Weblos Boy Scout Club for his son and neighborhood kids. Henry was always the handyman improving his home with a closed in porch to make a fun playroom. Here he spent many nights building doll houses or putting together bikes with steering wheels on them for his children. Henry had a love for animals getting the family their first pet, a German Shepard he named, Prince. He also housed a few chickens, a duck and one rooster that like to sleep in the cherry tree, until he became supper. Henry and Norgin wanted to be in an area with more space, during an afternoon ride with friends they landed in Washington NJ. Here Hank was able to have a dog, chickens, ducks and adding goats. In 1974 Hank joined the Washington Township police department as one of the only Spanish speaking officers. He enjoyed a 20 plus year career protecting and patrolling Washington Township. Henry's hobbies included deer hunting, home improvement and watching the Yankees win. Henry's smile and enthusiasm for fun could light up any event he attended. He was always the first one on the dance floor at every wedding. And ready to go visit a friend or family member at the drop of a hat. Henry was a dedicated family man that worked hard and loved to play. Certainly Henry is in heaven now playing and doing all the things that made him laugh, dancing salsa with his family and watching over us until we meet again. Hank leaves behind his wife Norgin of 54 years, son Henry Rios Jr and wife Debbie; daughter Gina Miller and husband Derrick. Grand kids Ross Miller; Ricky Meyers and his wife Angela, Jimmy Meyers and wife Shannon; Isabella Rios, Henry David Rios III and Gina Raquel Miller. Great-grand children Teddy Meyers and Brooke Meyers. Sister Angie Picon, sister in law Yvette and many nieces and nephews.
