Vicki and Alonzo, It's hard to believe it's been a year since we said good bye to Alonzo. We want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. The Turkey Day tournament will always remain sad and special at the same time. Cody will be wearing his Alonzo camo singlet in honor of his good friend. May God comfort and bless you on this difficult anniversary. Randy, JoAnn & Cody Harrison

RIP Coach Lonz, you will be missed by many, as you impacted so many lives, especially mine. I can remember the beard and overalls from Washington Y and the big smile that lit the room up. I remember the car rides to and from tournaments, how you told all of us that we would could beat anyone who stepped on the line, the late nights sitting at the dinner table going over matches, the first tournament we as a group (Bluestorm) wrestled in while you were there with Len Artigliere coaching us to the top of the podium. The one moment that will always stick with me is when I won regions and you were the first one I saw as I stood up and you nodded your head and I could see the words good job come out, that was and will always be one of the greatest congratulations I have ever received. Not many understand how important you were to us or to me, you were part of my childhood, my career, and my life. The lessons you taught were more than just words they had meaning and for that I can not thank you enough. As you once said "Family isn't just the people you are related to it's the people you surround yourself with" and for me that was you. I will always miss you and that beard. Love you Lonz……..Matt Artigliere

Dear Widenor Family-
My sincere condolences on the loss of Alonzo, he was a great person and an icon of Oxford. I hope that in time your memories will ease your pain. I have many fond memories of Alonzo hunting with my father and Red in Upstate New York....when my middle son met Alonzo when he was probably around the age of three he asked me if he was "Santa" both my older children were privileged to have spent time with my Father, Alonzo and Red in New York State and those memories created will last a life time...

It is with much sadness that I am writing about a longtime friend who will surely be missed by all that knew him. It was a privilege and a honor to have shared many good times with Alonzo. We will never forget his birthday party that was held at the Oxford Firehouse a few weeks ago. That night proved how much he was loved and respected by his family and friends. Our hearts and prayers go out to his loving family. RIP my friend.

Vicki, Kim and Alonzo Jr, our prayers are with you. Alonzo will be missed by many, but none more than the youth of our area. Alonzo was always so generous with his time and knowledge in volunteering to coach or help in any way possible with various youth organizations. Alonzo coached my son in several sports, and I had the privilidge to coach with Alonzo myself. His priority was always the kids. It wasn't all about winning, but rather teaching proper technique, sportsmanship and a general love of whichever sport he was involved with. You will be missed Alonzo. Not only in the front row of every wrestling match, but in my heart and the hearts of countless youngsters who benefited from your example.

Vicki, Kim and Alonzo we are so sorry for your loss and heartache. Please know that we grieve with you. We will miss Alonzo and he will always have a special place in our hearts. He meant so much to Cody. He took Cody on his first turkey hunt and helped him recover his first deer - not to mention that Alonzo was his biggest wrestling fan. Please take comfort in knowing that Alonzo is standing in Heaven saying: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8

41 Years ago I had a knock on my door one night. Two of my sons had wrestled a few weeks the year before when one got very ill and the other decided not to wrestle without him. The knock on my door was a man looking for a 55 and 60 pound boy for his wrestling team. I explained we had no transportation to practice. He said not a problem, I will pick up and bring them home. What memories because of that kindness. Not only did he become my boys coach but also a good friend. Because of his kindness I have some of the greatest memories of my boys growing up and my daughter. He came to me and asked if I would coach cheerleaders for the team.We had none and I really knew nothing about cheering, I laughed at first. Then I said if Vickie will help me. What a great time we had. That man was Alonzo Widenor.Thank you Alonzo for all you did for so many kids in Oxford. My prayers and thoughts are with the Widenor family.I will always remember Alonzo

Vicki, Kim, Alonzo and Family, Please know that my prayers are for you and the loss of your husband and father. My prayers also go to Alonzo’s entire family and friends - - that God eases everyone’s hurt during this time of sorrow. It was a blessing to know such a man. Not everyone has the opportunity to know someone who could bring a smile in so many different situations. That smile wasn’t always a laugh or instantaneous, but sometimes one of respect. Alonzo will always bring special memories in my heart and I am sure in the hearts of many others. I will remember him always because I want too. Alonzo always brought the spirit of being family when you talked with him. That’s a special trait that Oxford is losing - - the feeling of family that Alonzo could bring. I know this is a sad and heartbreaking time, but I want to share a happy moment that Alonzo brought to many of us. It happened this September at his 65th birthday party. Alonzo's face was as bright as the sun being able to see so many of his family and friends together at the same time while he was still with us on earth. Not only was it 1 of the largest birthday parties I have attended, but it was 1 of the greatest personal celebrations I ever witnessed - - period. Alonzo wasn’t the only one who was happy, either. He brought together an array of positive emotions and closeness to all. It hurts a great deal knowing he is gone, but I can’t imagine him ever leaving our hearts. There are too many smiles, whether it was hunting, coaching wrestling, watching a game, talking of his family or a friend, or a simple hello. I am so glad to say I had the opportunity to befriend Alonzo Widenor and I thank God he gave him to us. Vicki - - if you ever need help with something, please don't hesitate to ask. If I am available to help, it would be and honor.
